Technology Making Co-Parenting Easier

After divorce, communicating with the other parent in a child focused, businesslike manner can be maximized when parents utilize online systems for parents raising kids in two homes.  These centrally located programs can assist parents in developing weekly schedules for the kids, provide logistical information, build a searchable history and timeline of key events for children as information is kept “in the cloud” for both parents. 

Google Calendar:

The Google calendar is an online solution perfect for DIY parents who like to customize and design a calendar that meets the needs of the family.   To create a family calendar, each parent will need to set up a family Gmail account.  Then parents will go to Google and set up a separate calendar to add kid’s events such as medical appointment, school events, or details of extra curricular activities, that can be seen by the other parent.  The other parent will need to accept the offer to share the calendar.  Be sure and check that box that generates and email notifying each parent that a new calendar entry or amendment was made. 

For parents who are not scared of technology, parents can utilize Google Labs to enable calendar to include event attachments.  Including receipts, report cards, photos of the child, and medical records,

Be sure to check settings on Google calendar to make it private.
